Problems with Power Blogger

           Power Blogger was meant to be as one of source that was given people useful and genuine information. It was all about how they got their information by themselves, and experienced what they have been. Maybe it was just me being naïve to believe that they were all honest what they wrote. However, some of them were intentionally promote company’s products not saying they are paid for their postings.

           Somehow, they got themselves low credibility especially after all the news that have been came out from some of power bloggers. They were lying about what they have been written and they also made readers to buy what they have been written about. It could have been seemed like they looks like next door’s neighbors that recommend some products that they felt so nice and good. However, their face recommendations have made the problems.

           When the problem came out, which is low safety of the product, they were asked to be return and make compensation from the seller. Since the seller was not a proper registered seller, and it wasn’t even its product, it was unlikely for consumers to get proper procedure to take their money back or whatsoever. As this problem bursts, the tax evasion busted. They did not even pay the tax that they were supposed to be pay. And the amount of fine that were to be paid was ridiculously so low by comparing with what they have earned illegally. It was my time to think about whether if they are being as innocently sharing and feeling with their readers or as for making money from readers.

Private loans.

             It has been pretty a long time since the private loan came out to our society. Some of them are from Japanese capital, some of them are from Korean’s. With the allowance to bring these kinds of companies here, there are lots of problems coming out at the same time.

           Obviously, most of the poor people and the low credit people are the main customer’s for them. It is not big a deal that they are loan from these kinds of companies. The problems are brought when it comes to ridiculously high interests that they have to pay. Still, I hardly think that they are able to pay all the interests and the money that they borrowed. It is not reasonable interest at the first place, and it seems to me that the system of the private loan is not made for borrows to pay their debts. It is so high that they can’t even afford to their interests. Some of companies hires some gangsters to threat the people who has not made their deadline to pay their money. It is illegal in this country. However, it seems that people who have been threatened by gangsters cannot make a call for the police because they also illegally did not pay the money on time.

           The banks are the part of causes that they made their loan procedures so difficult that normal people would find it complicated and frustrated from borrowing money of major ones. I know there is an easier procedure for the low income citizens. This found out to be not enough for everybody who wants some loan. Maybe this could work when the government make more flexible but accurate for their payment.

Marriage in Korea

           I’m not sure when exactly the western marriage has been so popular to this country. But the fact is that it is most common style of marriage right now right here. Most of girls and women are dreaming fabulous and beautiful wedding since they are very young. It could be like their one of their list that they really pursue. However, there are always problems which get along with it.

           The current wedding style which is mostly western style, it is very commercial and the fast wedding with lots of people invited. Most of guests are asked to hand in their money in an envelope as a sign of congratulation. I think this is a way of celebrating the couple to be happy after the wedding. These are the most common thing in Korea. However, the cost of marriage is pushing the age of the marriage in Korea. Since the amount of money is very increasingly high, the couples cannot think it as a just simple ceremony in front of many people. The wedding became like a business where they have to make a profit through this thing to have more money after the wedding. They just concern more about the later life rather than having incredibly huge marriage.

           The cultural problem also blocks the rate of marriage as well. The mother and father in law are still important in Korea. And the problem also occurs from the level of each other’s job and their wealth. That is why the match makers are arising from the wedding business. The men and women want to find the people who are same worth as theirs. It could be very ridiculous to the other’s who believes in love. However, this is reality that still, they are looking for a man or a woman whom what they call ‘perfect man or woman’. More and more, women are pursuing a person who has great wealth, and men are mainly pursuing a woman with great appearance. I don’t think that I can get a clear solution for it. This is more like a problem with many complicated situation and their situation. What would be the thing that can solve this problem?

English Education in Korea

    There are many kinds of English Education in Korea. These are all cost lots of money and many parents are craving for their children to be fluent in English. I think the one of major cause is the private English education. To get great English skills and grades, many people are spending their money to the private academy.

Besides, English educations for very early age are increasingly high. There are many kindergartens for the children that specially teach them knowledge in only English. Maybe it is good for them to learn English, but the problem is they are learning their own languages as well. They are not perfect Korean speakers yet at their age. I think it is more important to learn their language before learn the others. They are forced to learn another language even before they know theirs. This could also lead them to stressful situation during the stressful education. I saw from the TV that shows a second grade boy was so stressed by forced education of English. He was so stressed that he could not control his thought and he speaks bad languages so often and could not understand why he have to suffer these kind of situation.

Other than these kinds of problems, recently, native English teacher’s problem came out to Korea. The problem was that Korea needed the native speakers to teach their children or adults, they did not have their evaluation or check to the native English speakers thoroughly. Actually, by these kinds of problems, some of the teachers have done their crimes and being on the news.

Even though they were morally ok, there are also problems with their ability to teach nonnative speakers. There are majors called ‘Education’. It means that they are learning how to educate people. I think it is a huge gap between just mathematics major and the education of mathematics. It isn’t just about how well they can do the math. It is the major key that they actually have to know how to teach their student math. So, it is a very complicated problem to have the natives checked their ability to bring student’s improved English level.

Student Ordinances

      From this presentation, the presenter let me know that there are many noticeable ordinances these days. There are hair and uniform ordinance, examining belongings, free lunch, prohibiting next curriculum, prohibit discrimination of sexual orientation etc. And these are both same and different from my school periods. As far as I know, I have the idea that my school life was fully controlled and guided by the teachers and school policies.

      Through this presentation, I got some interesting information but doubtful ordinances as well. The one that caught my eyes were the no punishment for the students at all. Any punishment would be against the rule in the school. I got this rule information from the news in the past and I felt that it was very ridiculous ordinance that could ruin student’s life. Of course it does not just have bad effect when prohibit punishment, however, without certain and right ways to teach and guide the students, I strongly felt that this is unready for any other school. And as a result from this rule, the teacher’s authority is actually going down and for the worst one; some of the female teachers get hurts from big rude male students or gets sexual harassment.

     Is this the only way to respect the students right now? I don’t think so. There’s got to be some respectful but strongly strict rule for the students so that they can notice the rule and understand it that it is for them not the adults. Some of previous severe physical punishment was also the issue in the past. I think this is a good intend to forbidden physical punishment to students but respect. But as this policy goes, some of the result goes very unhealthy way. It could lead to the bad cycle between students and the teachers.

Monopoly

  From this presentation, I have learned that the problems of monopoly in markets of Korea. In the past, I knew they merge companies many times and they do such a thing for their expanding to make their shops and increasing their sales rate. And I thought that it is a natural situation that they make their company bigger than before to pursue for their better service and products.


  But as the presenter gave us many problems, I've noticed some examples of the monopoly problems and bad side effects through the monopoly. I believe it is not good for the long-term economy and for the consumers right when they have a choice to choose what they want to buy.


  Merging companies could be the one of the major problems for the economy. I think this could be good effect that they can launch their products better than ever for consumer. However, eventually this could lead to the bad effects that could get rid of consumer's choices and finally the consumers cannot help themselves but buy big companies' products even though the price is not worth to buy those or there will be not much of designs that would satisfy them. It is actually happening in Korea right now.


  Another example of the monopoly is in Bakery business. You will see many big franchise bakeries while you walk along the street. It is true that small private bakeries are disappearing these days. Small bakery owners are having trouble running their own store without changed into one of big franchise company. It is true that if we buy breads from big franchise bakery, we can get discounts. But this could also lead to buy only limited type of breads eventually. We also cannot avoid expensive breads after all.


  It is a consumer's choice to what to buy and evaluate the product. However, time after time, we actually losing our spot and rights from the big companies who destroy business moral and have their company get everything they want.

Hybrid Efficiency

   Today,I have heard that improved hybrid cars coming out these days and the effciency of those cars. Actually, I heard few new facts about the hybrid cars and the problems that came out which occured when it really used for the public. And it really had many problems like engine weight, the price of car and also there will be not enough station where they can get their car battery charged.


   Until today, I've never heard any new informations about all new hybrid cars and I was surprised that the car companies kept trying to upgrade their cars for the public. I thought it would never be commercialized. It seemed very unrealistic. And I also thought that it's only for showing people they're doing something more innovative things. But, now I think that it could be realistic cars for normal people.


   However, I think that there are still few problems when we get hybrid cars. Even though it is said that hybrid cars are much efficient than the normal ones, I think that the price of the car is still too expensive and we have to replace new batteries which costs us lots of money for these. And I also concern about the material that company use for the hybrid cars. The presenter said it is much lighter than the normal one, so, I dout the safety of cars whether it is going to be alright when accidents happens. And the hybrid cars does not have enough power for high speed. Isn't this going to spend much energy when the cars spending much more time on the street? I'm not really sure how the hybrid cars actually works. So, it raised my doubts.


   To sum up, I guess it is still not the right time that hybrid cars are appropriate for commercialized. And I belive that if the technology for the engine is developed, it would be perfect car which cost less money and also good for the earth.

Redevelopment

   Actually, I’ve just heard from morning news about the problems about this topic in Seoul, and never thought about it seriously, or any kind of thought that some people should be sacrificed by other people or the government when there are any kind of redevelopment. So, when I looked for the information or references about the illegal houses, the problem was really serious that could affect to the people who are living in the redevelopment area. And the most severe thing is that there is no solution for both sides. And even if there is, these solutions are not satisfying everyone.

   As I read the newspaper during preparing for the presentation, I was surprised by the government officials who did not give hand for the Guryong Village residents when they had damages from flood disaster. I understood why they could not help them because of the idea that helping illegal residential area is literally illegal, but they are also people who have rights. And I still can’t come up with my own opinion which is right or wrong. And the problem was much more complicated than I thought when I just picked the topic.

   When I and my presentation partner asked discussion questions like ‘Does a few people should sacrifice for the redevelopment?’ question, I got the impression that most of them agree that few sacrifices are needed for the bigger effects for the city. And for most of poor people who can’t afford their houses, several groups of the class thought that the government should give jobs for them so that they can afford to their monthly rental fee.

Overfishing

 From the presentation from Morgan today, I’ve learned overfishing from the Ocean. I had the strong impression on the bad fishing way and the special sticker that is on the cans or the fish product where you can see in America if they are from the safety fishing.

 Also, I’ve seen the different kind of the fishing, especially really bad like a trolling which destroys whole environment by sweeping the nets in the ocean including the bottom. From my general overfishing knowledge, I just knew that Chinese are overfishing fish at the Yellow Sea. They get the little fish to very qualify fish which also Morgan talked in the presentation.

 It was whole new idea I’d got when Morgan introduced the sticker that can be on the fish can if they’d done fishing without bad ways. And as he assume, since our country just meet the top 10 country not long ago, it is a fact that we are ignorant from the safety fish sticker. Almost nobody in the class knew whether the stickers exist or not. And I thought, without this sticker, we can’t be the ones who can choose their food properly even if it’s from the overfishing way and we can’t get the idea what so ever.

 From the discussion questions, we were asked whether we have a will to change our diet for the overfishing fish. I thought it’s impossible to change our diet right now, right away, but the several groups actually told class that they would change theirs. I think it’s a big movement from the people who just knew about the overfishing and change their diet habits and this also tells that if more people would know about the idea of overfishing and their effects to the ocean and eventually to us, things can be changed to the ocean.
